I bet you didn’t know you could make this…

I don’t know what it is, but since Spring has arrived I have been nesting!! Spring cleaning and getting rid of all the clutter just makes me feel empowered! It’s not only me, but Chad has been planting lots of flowers and getting the yard in tip-top shape- and he FINALLY hired someone to paint the entryway/stairs. After 3 years of living here, I guess the white walls finally got to him. Chad is so meticulous when it comes to having something done around the house. We decided to go with a company called Patch plus paint in Frisco,TX and they were wonderful to work with. Chad’s “hawk-eye” for everything just made them laugh and they got everything done in a day and a half.

While they were working, I was able to ask them a few questions about updating the house. One of the questions I asked him was what are a few inexpensive things that people can do to their house that makes a big difference. His answer was, staining the door or painting it with a pop of color; adding texture to a wall; touch up on areas that need paint on the exterior of the house or paint an accent wall. He said that some of the most popular colors going into houses are kilim beige, greys and greige (especially Mega Greige). So if you have been itching to do a little something to the house, now is the time! I want to see your projects!!! Speaking of projects and paint…
While they were painting, I was stuck in the office just crafting away! earlier in the month we had lunch with my husband’s friend who has a wonderful eye for decorating. He showed me some of his most recently finished projects and my jaw dropped!! One of the projects was a refinished sofa table. Refinished with… PAINT STICKS!! Yes.. Paint sticks!!

herringbone table

I was utterly amazed!!! He began telling me how to do it and how easy it was..of course, he had a saw and all the equipment needed. I on the other hand, had a husband who was already tired of cutting various pieces of wood for my other crafts!! But, I was up for the challenge. He directed me to this website that has all the details you need to do a project like this. And so..it began!! I went to Home Depot and grabbed as many paint sticks as I could and then found an associate and asked if they could cut the paint sticks for me. (You could also just buy paint sticks on ebay) After they found out that I had to cut all of them, they said I could use their manual saw and do it myself! While cutting all the paint sticks, I just kept laughing to myself about how I know nothing about wood or the dang gum saw!! But hey… I was determined!! Once I cut the paint sticks to size, I sanded the edges down a bit and I started gluing them in a pattern using E6000 glue, but you could also use wood glue. After I got the pattern going it was easy. Glue…stick..glue..stick.

wpid-20150403_140221.jpg

Unfortunately, I picked out a side table that was curved in the front, so I did as much as I could and now have to wait for my husband to cut a few curved edges for me so I can finish the project. So.. FYI, use a square or rectangle table!!

wpid-20150403_125446.jpg

After I glued it and let it dry for an hour or so, I stained the wood sticks and that’s it!! Now you have a piece of work that should amaze you and your friends and family!!!

Easter eggs done!!

Ok, so it’s Wednesday and Easter is Sunday, and you still haven’t decorated any easter eggs?! Don’t worry, I’m with you sista! I have the perfect solution for you.

I love Easter but I hate decorating Easter eggs. Seriously, the smell of the vinegar and the imaginary scenes that play out in my head (Katie knocking the dye all over the table or my white chairs having colored hand prints on them) don’t make me just wanna bust out the eggs if you know what I mean! So then, we are off to Plan B. Easter egg decorating with no vinegar or dye..sounds like a great plan b to me already!
Do you have a hard time peeling your hard-boiled eggs? Does the shell stick to the egg? Well, do I have a trick for you! When you boil the water, add a teaspoon of baking soda. It’s like magic! When the eggs are done, all you have to do is crack the bottom and peel a little piece off and then crack the top and peel a small piece from the top..and then BLOW! lol, yes, you read right.. blow through one of the holes you just made and that little egg will come right out. Seriously..you don’t believe me? Watch this awesome YouTube video here. It works. Carson who had no idea what I was doing laughed so hard when the egg popped out that he nearly peed his pants! It was SO funny! The things you can find on YouTube are amazing!

After the eggs were boiled I grabbed some of the kids broken crayons and went to town coloring them while they were still hot. The crayons just melted onto the egg and it turned out so pretty especially when you mix different colors !! It’s was like I was Monet or something.

Melted crayons!

Just kidding…those pesky imaginary scenes get the best of me! Next, we had leftover tattoos from Carson’s birthday party so yep you guessed it..we tattooed some eggs.So easy peasy and the tattoo choices are endless. (it works really well when the eggs are still hot).

We love Pokémon!

And lastly we made egg ninjas from a kit Carson got last year. So that’s it, that’s our Easter egg decorating for this year. Some may say I’m a total slacker, but hey..the kids had fun, I had fun and we have Easter eggs to hide! Gotta work smarter not harder, especially if you are a mom! Now, get to it. How are you going to decorate YOUR eggs?

Isn’t this the cutest decorated egg ever!!

It’s birthday time! Kendra Scott Jewelry and Pokemon..EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!

My husband’s birthday is late March and my son’s birthday is in the first week of April, so needless to say – besides showers, April brings lots of stressful party planning! On a side note, not many people know that you can get 50% off one item at Kendra Scott during the month of your birthday. Yep, Chad really wanted something from Kendra Scott!! Well- it is true, happy wife equals happy life! He got the cutest pair of earrings for me, just in time for Spring!

Love Kendra Scott!

I love planning parties, especially birthday parties. Growing up, my family always made a big deal about birthdays and I guess I got that family gene too! My son is turning 7 in April. I had already started planning what I wanted to do for his birthday, my vision had a video game truck, sno-cones, a face painter and lots of cool goody bags. All I had left to do was to come up with a party theme. It was then that Carson put my visions to a halt by saying that he just wanted one person to come over for his birthday. Say Wha….??!! I tried to convince him to invite everyone In his class but he wasn’t having it. I even used the line that he could get more presents if he invited more people. Again.. I got shut down. Do you know what he told me? He said he already had too many toys and didn’t need anymore. OKAY- whatever. If he wanted one friend, then one friend it was; but I actually was able to convince him to at least invite his cousins! So that took the party to six people! I could work with that! He wanted a pokemon party. So the Pinterest search began. What did I find??

Buy candy melts ( Red, white and black)

wpid-20150323_101316.jpg

Use a silicon cake pop mold

wpid-20150323_101924.jpg

Melt according to package and brush on molds. I did two layers

wpid-20150323_105207.jpg

After cooled in refrigerator for a few minutes carefully pop them out of the silicon mold and fill with candy

wpid-20150323_110440.jpg

connect the top and bottom halves with more of the white candy melts and then give it a minute to set. Then take your finger and smooth it out.

Color a line with the black candy melts

You can find the video online if you need more details here.

After I finished with the balls, I was pretty excited that you could actually make out that it was supposed to be a pokemon ball!! Next I found a template online where you could make your own pokemon cards.Totally awesome. Carson was blown away by it. I made one for each of the kids.

Pokémon cards..featuring carson!

You can find the template here. And then of course there’s the Pikachu peeps..which is just peeps turned over and Pikachu drawn with edible markers.

wpid-20150328_143918.jpg

I made water bottle labels with the template here. Then you throw in a few boxes of popcorn, chocolate covered oreos and a pokemon pizza and you are ready for a party!

Thank you Dominos

Remind me what was I thinking? A sleepover with 6 kids? And taking them to Dave and Busters on a Saturday night?

wpid-20150328_204639.jpg

I should be admitted to the crazy house or something! Reminder to self- no piñata next year if we are doing another sleepover.

wpid-20150328_180708.jpg

Yep, that’s Pikachu mooning us!

The kids were on a sugar high for hours!! It sounded like a war zone upstairs with all the running and jumping around and all the nerf bullets flying around.
Carson had a blast!! And his friends did too!! Thank goodness it’s over with…maybe I can sneak in some downtime before the next party starts again!!

My Favorite time of the year!! Spring has arrived! ** GIVEAWAY*

I love Spring. I love the flowers blooming, the sun shining, the sunroof open and the music blaring. It just makes me happy, you know like when you come home to a clean house, or get into a bed with freshly laundered sheets, or when your kids go to bed on time. YEP. I’m in my happy place now! And when I’m happy, I eat.. I meant I craft. Ok Ok Ok.. eat WHILE i craft. lol

Well, I saw this on tomkat studios ( I love her stuff)

bunny

and thought.. I have all that stuff at home already. I’m going to make that. It’s funny because I make all these different crafts and then I think to myself..what am I supposed to do with all this stuff I made. Half I keep, and half I end up giving away. It’s just relaxing to craft. So, back to what I was saying.. really.. I had a 12 x 12 piece of wood already cut out
image

( I actually have like 10 more pieces in the garage) so I just sanded it down a bit and sprayed painted it with rust-oleum 2x spray paint. I love rust-oleum because one coat is thick enough and it dries in 10 minutes. I literally finished this project in 30 minutes from start to finish.
image

While it was drying, I whipped out my cutting machine (cameo silhouette) and cut out a picture of a rabbit on vinyl and viola..I was almost done. But for those that don’t have a cutting machine, you could easily print a picture of a rabbit on cardstock and then cut it out and use it as a template – tracing it with a marker and then paint it.
image

Other than that, I took my vinyl cutout and stuck it on the piece of wood like I would a sticker. Then I got my trusty glue gun and popped a bunny tail on to my rabbit.
image

image

And that’s it. Done! It’s that easy. Seriously. So, in the 30 minutes I had time to make 2 wood signs.
image

So lucky for you, I’m going to give one away!! Just like my facebook page
